  • Notified final felling area increases after slump in June

    After a slump in notifications in June the forest owners’ engagement for final felling increased considerably in July. That is shown by monthly statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency. The area notified for final felling in July was the highest in 9 years. One reason for the increase could be higher activity in forest operations due to infestation of bark beetle which leads forest owners to notify for final felling to clear damaged forests despite it being the main summer holiday month. / Swedish Forest Agency

That is shown by monthly statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency.     According to the Swedish Forest Agency’s stock survey, the total stocks of coniferous sawlogs, pulpwood and pulp chips was 10.1 million cubic metres on March 31 this year.     The Swedish Forest Agency conducts an annual survey by questionnaire on the production of seedlings for forest regeneration in Sweden. According to the latest survey the production of Scots pine increased by almost 8 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year.   • Second highest notified area of final felling in 2018

    In 2018, the second most notified area of final felling was reported since 1995. This according to Swedish Forest Agency's annual statistics that are now published. The increase is partly due to the forest fires during the summer. Of the 21,000 hectares in the fire areas, 11,208 hectares have been reported as notified final felling. Swedish Forest Agency
