Roundwood prices of sawlogs (delivery prices) fell by two percent in the fourth quarter of 2012 compared to the prior quarter. Prices fell by two percent in Southern Sweden and by four percent in Central Sweden. In Northern Sweden prices rose with one percent. / Swedish Forest Agency

Stocks of pulpwood amounted to 4.3 million m³ (cubic metre solid volume excl. bark) in the third quarter of 2012. The volumes are 11 percent lower compared to second quarter of 2012 but higher by 6 percent when compared to the same quarter in 2011.
Stock volumes of pulpwood differ between wood balance regions. In the northern part of Sweden, the stocks of pulpwood increased, while in central and south of Sweden the stocks declined.
The largest stock volumes were of pine and coniferous pulpwood 3.4 million m³, stocks of spruce pulpwood were 0.5 million m³, other pulpwood accounted for 0.7million m³ and pulpwood chips were 0.7 million m³. Most of the increase of pine and coniferous pulpwood was in wood balance region 1 and region 2. / Swedish Forest Agency

During January-August 2012 the export volume decreased for both sawlogs (-16%) and pulpwood (-29%) compared with the same period 2011. The corresponding figures in 2012 were an increase of imports by 25% and 4% respectively. / Swedish Forest Agency

Importation of both logs and lumber to China fell substantially in 2012, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly. Total imports, by value, during the first eight months was 4.3 billion dollars, or 19% less than in 2011, with the biggest declines in logs imported from Russia and the US, and in lumber from North America.
